How to Earn w-points
Last updated: August 2026
w-points are the core gamification mechanic of Workout Time. They are designed to keep you motivated, establish a consistent workout habit, and reward your efforts for progressive overload.
1. Active Workout Duration (Consistency)
You earn base points simply for showing up and completing your active exercise sets. The points you earn per hour are determined by the difficulty level of the workout:
- Base (Easy): 100 points per hour
- Medium: 120 points per hour
- Heavy: 150 points per hour
- Extreme: 200 points per hour
These base points are calculated in real-time as you complete each exercise set.
2. Progressive Weight Modifier (Volume Bonus)
If you increase the weight of an exercise compared to its baseline target setup, you earn bonus points:
- Weight Increase: Lifting a heavier weight than your target setup grants you an active **Volume Bonus**.
- Weight Decrease: Lifting a lighter weight than your target setup reduces your score proportionally to match the lower effort level.
- Muted Weight Guard (Bodyweight): If an exercise is bodyweight-only (0 kg), the weight modifier is automatically ignored so you aren't penalized.
💡 Training Safety First: The weight bonus uses diminishing returns (a square-root formula). This guarantees that you are rewarded for progression, but discourages lifting dangerously heavy weights just for points.
3. Repetition Modifier (Reps Bonus)
Doing extra reps in a set also boosts your score:
- Extra Reps: Completing more repetitions than the baseline target repetitions for a set awards you bonus points.
- The repetition bonus also scales with a square root, keeping it balanced and rewarding you for pushing past your target counts.
4. Fair Play Point Cap
To maintain a balanced and fair tracking system across the community:
- The maximum points you can earn in a single workout session is capped at 3 times the Level Base Rate (e.g. max 300 points for a Base workout, or max 600 points for an Extreme workout).
- This prevents point inflation and keeps tracking focused on consistent, daily progress.
